Chiara Rosé 2012
ROSÉ OF ZINFANDEL
The Chiara Rosé from Chiarello Vineyards is back! Making a Rosé wine in red wine country took some convincing. However, Michael realized he could make an especially interesting one from the 2012 vintage, as the Chiarello estate netted a bumper crop of the highest quality.
Our Chiara Rosé comes from Old Vine Zinfandel grapes. As we bleed off juice to concentrate our red wine, the by-product is terrific juice tinged with beautiful rose color, just ready for barrel-fermentation. And voila, a full-bodied Rosé of Zinfandel, rich with tropical fruits and berries. It pairs wonderfully with a wide array of foods, and it is equally as good in Summer as in early Fall (with Holiday meats). After a five-hour cold soak, we utilized some saignée (bled-off juice) as well as free-run press juice to create our first rosé in years. Partially-fermented on the skins for added character and iridescence. The 2012 Chiara Rosé has supple roundness and yet palate-refreshing acidity all at once. Salmon color. Cherries, strawberries, watermelon, gooseberries, kiwi. Serve at 45 to 49 degrees.
